Barry O’Farrell’s proposed changes to the Victims Compensation Scheme have left victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse out in the cold.

As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, victims will not be able to make a claim if it has been more than ten years since the incident occurred.

UOW Professor of Mental Health Nursing, Lorna Moxham, believes it is important for victims and their families receive proper counselling.

“Mental health affects everyone and it does not discriminate. It is something you live with, but it doesn’t make you as a person,” she said.
