Hawks searching for consistency in double header

The Hawks will play a double header against the Blaze and the Kings this weekend

The Wollongong Hawks will be out in search of their second win for the season when they take on the Gold Coast Blaze at the WIN Entertainment Centre on Friday night.

After finding some form in their win over the Adelaide 36ers last week, it will be important test for the Hawks as they look to establish themselves as contenders in the race for the NBL crown.

The Gold Coast will be looking for their first win of the season following successive losses to the New Zealand Breakers and the Cairns Taipans and it should prove to be a tough encounter for the home side.

Hawks captain Mat Campbell said it will be important for his side to continue to play at the highest standard and play consistently in offence.

“I think we need to be able to find that spark ourselves on the floor and not have to worry about Gordie (McLeod) getting up us at half-time or during a time out,” said Campbell.

“It’s something that we’ll have to work on but consistency will come with practice,” he added.

Following their clash with the Blaze on Friday, the Hawks will complete a double-header when they make a trip to Sydney to face their long-standing rivals the Kings on Sunday.

Campbell highlighted the importance of the double-header and believes if his side can get some more wins on the board early on, they can start to move forward for the season.

“We’re back at home again so what we need to do now is consolidate, and if we get a couple of wins we can continue to move forward,” he said.

Last week’s victory over the 36ers put the Hawks into the top four on the NBL table and they can maintain their position with some more win this weekend.

The Hawks tip-off against the Gold Coast at 7.30 on Friday before moving on to take on the Sydney Kings on Sunday night.
